Poder Normalizador ou a "Sombra" da Intervenção Social
Abstract
Normalizing Power or the ‘Shadow’ of Social Intervention
Based on a Foucaulnian analysis of power, the author proposes a reading of the professional practice of the Portuguese social workers in the application of the RMG measure. In that perspective, RMG is considered a normalizing mechanism – enabling a more effective mastery and management of the dispossessed citizens – through the action of several agents of the public state. The role of social workers is particularly relevant in this process, because, by enabling the control of maladjustments through economical help, they collaborate in the preservation of the socially established order of power.
