Abstract

Aesthetic Impact from the Perspective of Psychology of Art: The Paintings The Crime of Father Amaro by Paula Rego in the Vision of Adolescents

Aesthetic impact is the experience that happens at the encounter between the receptor and the artwork. What is at stake here is to evaluate differences about the aesthetic impact of six paintings by Paula Rego on different groups of teen students, in terms of sociocultural and gender identities. The research was based on a structured interview and on content analysis, according to the frequency of clusters. The conclusion is that different sociocultural experiences markedly influence the aesthetic experience, but the same is not necessarily the case in respect to gender.
