Saúde Mental, Trabalho e Qualidade de Vida

Resumo

A saúde mental no trabalho constitui uma área em expansão, do ponto de vista epistemológico, teórico e de pesquisa interdisciplinar, e, simultaneamente, do ponto de vista do crescimento de estratégias, políticas sociais e legislação inspiradas pela preocupação com as dimensões psíquicas do trabalho. Estas conexões são abordadas, neste artigo, a partir do foco sobre as noções de Qualidade de Vida e Qualidade de Vida no Trabalho que ganharam, no idioma atual, eficácia operativa em vários regimes de análise e de intervenção sobre as condições e organização do trabalho. O artigo apresenta a evolução destes conceitos na teoria euro-americana da segunda metade do século XX. Em particular, o modo como as mudanças nas definições de saúde mental foram crescentemente orientadas, no sentido de ultrapassar a oposição entre saúde física e saúde mental e o dualismo corpo e mente; os limites complexos entre normalidade e patologia; a influência das teorias motivacionais e da psicodinâmica do trabalho; a interacção contraditória entre prosperidade e instabilidade característica da economia e sociedade pós-industrial. Atenção particular é dada às reflexões teóricas e aos casos empíricos que emanam do contexto brasileiro contemporâneo.

Summary

Mental health in the workplace is an expanding area, from the epistemological, theoretical and interdisciplinary research standpoints, and, at the same time, from the point of view of the growth of strategies, social policies and legislation inspired by a concern with the psychic dimensions of work. The article addresses these connections by focusing on the notions of Quality of Life and Quality of Life in the Workplace which have gained operative efficacy in several analysis and intervention regimes relative to the conditions and organisation of work. This study describes the evolution of these concepts in the Euro-American theory of the second half of the 20th century. In particular, it examines the way in which changes in the definition of mental health have increasingly been oriented beyond the opposition between physical and mental health, and the body-mind dualism; the complex limits between normality and pathology; the influence of motivational theories and the psychodynamics of work; the contradictory interaction between prosperity and instability, characteristic of the post-industrial economy and society. Particular attention is given to theoretical reflections and empirical cases arising from the contemporary Brazilian context.
