Da Liberdade Cristã: Um Ensaio sobre a Reforma de Lutero

Resumo

O pensamento de Martinho Lutero sobre as questões da liberdade e do serviço ao próximo teve grande influência no desenvolvimento posterior do pensamento moderno, a visão da Ética no Iluminismo e, em particular, as relações que Kant argumentou entre racionalidade e transcendentalismo com o humanismo ético. A teologia evangélica de Lutero estabelece que apenas com a actividade relacional do indivíduo com Deus e com o mundo é possível garantir certezas espirituais e práticas éticas fundamentais. Neste sentido, Lutero rompeu, simultaneamente, com as visões heróicas do livre arbítrio, que parecem divinizar o homem, e com a visão penitencial da justiça divina, característica da teologia medieval. Em vez de um Deus absoluto e distante, Lutero observa a relação pessoal com Deus como um princípio de eternidade e uma ética da liberdade, reunindo a salvação do espírito com o serviço concreto ao próximo na realidade do mundo.

Summary

Martin Luther’s thought on the issues of freedom and the service to one’s fellowman had a great influence on the following development of modern thought, the vision of Ethics in Enlightenment and, in particular, on the relations argued by Kant between rationality, transcendentalism and ethical humanism. Luther’s evangelic theology establishes that only the personal relationship to God and the world makes possible to warrant spiritual certainties and fundamental ethical practices. In that sense, Luther broke away simultaneously from the heroic visions of free will, which seem to divinise man, and from the penitential vision of divine justice, characteristic of the medieval theology. Instead of an absolute and distant God, Luther regards the personal relationship to God as a principle of eternity and an ethics of freedom, assembling the salvation of the spirit with the concrete service to one’s fellowman in the reality of the world.
