Originality and Plagiarism Policy
General principles
Interações. Sociedade e as Novas Modernidades requires that all manuscripts submitted for publication be original, unpublished, and the result of the authors’ own academic work, in compliance with principles of academic and scientific integrity.
Originality of manuscripts
Authors declare that submitted manuscripts:
- have not been previously published, in whole or in part;
- are not under review by another journal or scientific publication;
- comply with principles of academic and scientific integrity.
Submission of a manuscript implies full acceptance of these originality requirements.
Plagiarism and improper practices
The journal considers the following practices unacceptable, among others:
- total or partial plagiarism of third-party works;
- self-plagiarism that is not properly identified or justified;
- improper use of data, images, tables or excerpts without appropriate citation;
- any other form of misappropriation of intellectual work.
Self-plagiarism is understood as the substantial reuse of previously published content by the same author without proper citation, contextualisation or, where applicable, editorial authorisation.
All manuscripts may be subject to similarity checks using appropriate tools whenever deemed necessary by the journal’s Direction, at any stage of the editorial process.
Procedures in cases of suspicion or confirmation
Whenever plagiarism or violations of originality principles are suspected or confirmed:
- the manuscript may be rejected at any stage of the editorial process;
- authors may be requested to provide clarifications;
- if confirmed after publication, measures such as correction or retraction of the article may be applied.
The measures adopted follow international best practices in academic publishing and the procedures defined in the Retractions, Corrections and Post-Publication Policy, in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Minor, unintentional citation or referencing errors may be addressed within the editorial process, without prejudice to compliance with the journal’s ethical standards.
Authors’ responsibility
Authors are solely responsible for the content of submitted manuscripts and must ensure that all sources used are properly cited and referenced in accordance with the journal’s guidelines.
Relation to other policies
This policy should be read in conjunction with:
- Editorial Ethics;
