Abstract

This paper was motivated by the international repercussion of George Floyd,s murder by white police in Minneapolis (United States), in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic during 2020. It aims to analyze the colonial violence intrinsic in the global ethnic-racial conflicts through the theory of Frantz Fanon (1968) in his book "The wretched of Earth" dialoguing with the Afro-American artivists (artists and activists): the writer James Baldwin in the documentary "I'm not your Negro" (Peck, 2016), and the filmmaker Spike Lee (1988), with his film "Do the right thing" in memory of others Afro-American people who ended up as George Floyd. We also analyze the documentary "13th" (DuVernay, 2016) to better understand the cruel reality that still stigmatizes and condemns Afro-American people in United States. Methodologically, the paper is based on bibliographic, cinematographic and documental analyses dialoguing with these three activists who, from the psychiatry, the literature and the cinema, denounce the colonial violence at the same time that invite us to reflect about ways of fighting it.
