Interactive Documentary in Digital Environments: a Gender Taxonomy Based on Immersive Modes
This paper focuses on the interactive documentary and the role it plays in the space of digital environments. The integration of the documentary in the digital environment changed the perspective of representing reality bringing new meanings and new forms of presentation. The possibilities and platforms on which content can be viewed, as well as the relationships arising from the new interaction between authors and users, have changed dramatically. Especially noted for their ability to innovate and experiment, interactive documentaries have a lot to offer with regard to the various forms of exploration of different media, the various platforms they use and advanced practice they do from immersive, collaborative and participatory characteristics. Through the analysis of the formal composition of the interactive documentary and the relationship that comes between it and the audience, a definition and taxonomy of the genre was sought, paying attention to its complexity and transformational power. Thus, it was proposed a set of immersive modes that constitute a way of differentiating the various interactive documentaries, taking into account the three defined variables: author, media and user.
