Psychometric Validation of the UCLA-Loneliness Scale for Portuguese Elderly
The main purpose of this study is the adaptation and psychometric validation of the UCLA Loneliness Scale for the Portuguese elders. The analyses of temporal [α (16 items) = 0.985] and internal (0.905) consistencies and fatorial (2 fator) validities demonstrate that UCLA-16 Loneliness Scale is highly reliable as a screening instrument for geriatric loneliness. This conclusion was further validated by both discriminative function analysis. In the realm of this study the sample has also been classified according to CHAID (Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detetor) method in order to identify the parameters that are predictive of the feelings of loneliness.
