Resumo

A migração de populações das regiões colonizadas pelas potências ocidentais em direcção aos antigos países metropolitanos constitui um facto fundamental da cultura e da sociedade transnacional contemporânea. O crescimento da diversidade étnica e multicultural dos países ocidentais é, neste sentido, a fonte, simultaneamente, de uma nova comunidade e de novos problemas sociais. A antropologia cultural e o serviço social encontram, neste cenário actual, importantes pontos de convergência no trabalho destas disciplinas, sobretudo como novas metodologias de pesquisa e análise convergem com novas responsabilidades de intervenção transformativa na comunidade.

Summary

The migration of people from regions colonized by the western powers towards the former metropolitan countries constitutes a fundamental fact of culture and transnational contemporary society. The growth of the ethnic and multicultural diversity within the western countries is, in that sense, a source of both a new community and new social problems. Cultural anthropology and social work find in this actual scenario important points of convergence for the work of these disciplines, especially as new methodologies of research and analysis associate with new responsibilities of transformative.
